| Bill
to reform child protective services moves on written by: Jeffrey Wolf Corey Rose 16 hrs ago (KUSA-TV © 2010 Multimedia Holdings Corporation) DENVER - Alize Vick was 2 years old when she died from child abuse and neglect by her foster care provider. On Thursday, her neighbor and the person who reported the abuse, stood in front of a state senate committee in support of Senate Bill 171. - State probes into child deaths to change following
Munoz case Alize's neighbor, Maryann Hartmann, had remained anonymous until Thursday. She reported the abuse and neglect to El Paso County Human Services in May 2007. Alize died in October of that year - from head injuries. "DHS (Department of Human Services) did not believe me. I kept telling them, 'She's going to kill the little girl, she will kill her,' and they still did not believe me," Hartmann told state lawmakers. "I waited for that child to be removed from that house and it never happened. Five months later and Alize Vick is dead. I failed to save Alize Vick and that is why I'm here today to support the ombudsman bill." The Senate Health and Human Services Committee
unanimously approved the bill 7-0 late Thursday afternoon.
You can't turn a rattlesnake into a puppy, no matter how much flea powder you use- you can't turn a turd into a steak, no matter how much A1 Sauce you put on it. CPS is an insane pack of Organized Crime and there's no "smiley face" to put on it. Absolute EVIL from top to bottom, because the entire concept of government "child protection" is corrupt and can never be anything else. Ombudsmen can do NOTHING about it. |

| March 11, 2010 What Works for Programs for Older Youth
A new Child Trends fact sheet, What Works for Older Youth During the Transition to Adulthood, examines the role that programs for older youth can play in promoting positive development and subsequent self-sufficiency in adulthood. It synthesizes the findings from 31 rigorous evaluations of programs; all of the programs evaluated youth outcomes during the transition to adulthood (ages 18 to 25), but programs varied in the ages of targeted youth. Among the findings:
Summaries of over 420
evaluations of programs that work (or don't) to enhance children's

Dies in Foster Care after Mom Begged Case Worker to Check on Him Posted by Paul Napoli March 09, 2010 3:38 PM Injuryboard.com A 2-year-old child died in his Linden, NJ foster home last week, reported WABC-TV New York. Vanessa Gentleman, the mother of 2-year-old Xavier and another child in foster care, trusted her children’s custody to a friend, until she started noticing cuts and bruises on Xavier’s face. She documented injuries such as a split lip, black eye, cut on his forehead and scars with photographs. She repeatedly called the Department of Youth and Family Services, in November, December, January and February, including a call one week before Xavier died. Finally, a DYFS caseworker went to Xavier’s foster care home. "Her exact word were, 'Oh, I seen your other kids, but I didn't see Xavier.' I said well did you request him, because I know by law you are supposed to, and she said 'no, I told her I would come back next week.' Well a week later, my son was dead," Gentleman told WABC-TV New York. FULL STORY Two words- INCOMPETENCE and criminal MALFEASANCE. And it's universal in the child abuse industry. Seriously- If we just shut this entire system down and left the kids at home, what's the WORST that would happen? Who is most likely to KILL a kid? A mother or a paid foster that's only in it for the money? At least a bunch of criminal CPS people would be in prison where they belong. |

distrust evidence from social workers Judges delay decisions in urgent cases affecting vulnerable children to hear from other experts, says report Anushka Asthana and Patrick Butler guardian.co.uk, Monday 8 March 2010 12.07 GMT The Guardian, UK Courts are refusing applications to take children into care because some members of the judiciary hold social workers in such low esteem that they do not trust their evidence, it will be claimed this week in a major study. Local authorities told researchers that children were being put at risk because social workers were not always recognised as experts. found by an AFRA NewsHawk- 02/22/2010 US Supreme Court to hear CA case on falsely accused parents California's Children The US Supreme Court intervened today in the California case of Craig and Wendy Humphries vs. Los Angeles County and agreed to hear the case next fall. The backstory: Craig's teenage daughter accused her father and stepmother of abuse in 2001. The Craigs younger children were removed from the home (Wendy Humphries is a special ed teacher). Eventually, the state courts found the compliant "not true" and declared the couple "factually innocent" ... but they were -- are still -- listed on the state's Child Abuse Central Index. Lee Ross on the Fox News blog, Live Shots, summarizes the case thusly:

County probation workers going unpunished The Associated Press Posted: 03/03/2010 07:35:28 AM PST Updated: 03/03/2010 12:33:41 PM PST LOS ANGELES—Dozens of Los Angeles County Probation Department employees found to have abused youngsters in the juvenile justice system remain on the job because there isn't enough staff to mete out discipline, the department's interim chief said. About 170 employees await punishment while another 112 misconduct investigations are pending, including some involving allegations of excessive force. Some investigations have been pending for months. "We have too many cases and not enough staff," department chief Cal Remington told the Los Angeles Times for its Wednesday print edition. "I'm not happy with the time it takes to complete an investigation and determine the discipline." The county Board of Supervisors on Tuesday asked the county's Office of Independent Review to work with the probation department to review its operations. Probation department spokeswoman Kerri Webb told The Associated Press on Wednesday that she welcomes the review, adding: "We do have some bad apples." Full Story Aw, say it ain't so. You mean somebody's morals, honesty, ethics, and IQ doesn't go up to unimpeachable status once they get a job with the state? |

Votes to Protect Pupils Against Abusive Discipline By BENEDICT CAREY Published: March 3, 2010 New York Times In a move to provide the first comprehensive protections for children against abusive disciplinary actions by schools, the House on Wednesday easily approved a bill to restrict the use of forcible restraint and seclusion, in which children are held down, drugged or isolated in a locked room to control their behavior. The coalition that passed the bill 262 to 153, including 238 Democrats and 24 Republicans, sided with dozens of disability groups, as well as the American Federation of Teachers, and against some private school groups. The legislation, if it becomes law, will apply to any school receiving federal money. “Restraint and seclusion are complicated practices,” Representatives George Miller, Democrat of California, and Cathy McMorris Rodgers, Republican of Washington, the sponsors of the bill, said in a statement. “They are emergency interventions that should be used only as a last resort, and only by trained professionals.” A companion bill in the Senate is expected to be debated this year. pound baby survives A premature baby born weighing less than nine ounces has survived in Germany - the lightest ever baby boy to live. Ananova
He survived thanks to the latest developments in postnatal care. In most cases, doctors said, it was regarded as impossible for a child with a birth weight below 350 grams to survive. News of the birth was kept quiet while the boy was in a critical condition but doctors revealed details after announcing that he was no longer in danger. The little boy was born in June last year in the 25th week of pregnancy, revealed Stefan Weller, a spokesman for the University of Goettingen Hospital. He spent six months in intensive care and was finally discharged in December after he grew to more than 8lbs (3.7kg). Weller said doctors had checked every available record worldwide of premature births and found no viable birth at a lower weight for boys. Until now the lowest surviving birth weight for a boy was 297 grams. The lowest surviving birth rate for a newborn girl is 244 grams. So this "pregnancy matter" became a baby somewhere along the line? |
National Reunification Day
This year, a number of national organizations are working together to organize the first National Reunification Day on June 19, 2010. The goal of National Reunification Day is to celebrate families and communities coming together and to raise awareness about the importance of family reunification to children in foster care. While June 19, 2010 is the official day, a number of jurisdictions are celebrating on different days and weeks. The important part of this initiative is to celebrate successful reunifications whenever it works for you. Please click here for more information. ~By the way~ This National Reunification Day isn't being promoted by one of us lowly parent's rights advocates. This is sponsored by the American Bar Association. |
