We Could Make It Simple and Cheap By: Jennifer Rubin Commentary Magazine, October 6, 2009 ...Jeffrey Anderson has gone to the trouble of culling the best ideas and putting them on a single page. Yes, one page. These ideas have appeared in one form or another in Republican proposals and in pundit columns. And here’s the kicker: it doesn’t really cost a lot. Here’s the short version of the already short version of conservative health-care reform suggested by Anderson: 1. Leave employer-provided insurance as it is and give individuals a $2,500 tax credit to equalize tax treatment for individuals who buy their own insurance. 2. Allow individuals to buy insurance across state lines. 3. Extend COBRA for up to 30 months, allowing people to keep their insurance if they leave a job. 4. Remove government regulations limiting insurers from offering premium breaks for healthy lifestyle choices. 5. Enact real malpractice reform (limit punitive damages to $250,000 and all noneconomic damages to $750,000). 6. Provide help to encourage insurance pools for the hard to insure. That’s it. Over 10 years Anderson’s plan would spend $75B and include $345M in tax cuts. The Baucus bill (one version of it, at least) would spend $856B and include a net increase of $352B in tax hikes and $47B in fines. Both the Anderson and the Baucus plans would insure 95 percent of Americans. There is something to be said for simplicity — and a lot to be said for achieving the same results as Democrats are promising without a massive tax hike, a government takeover of health care, another massive hit to the budget, and thousands of pages of new federal regulations. Bill” Proposal for Sensible Health-Care Reform Of course, nobody is talking about cutting out the fraud, corruption, incompetence and malfeasance. |

HEALTH CARE: RESURRECTING THE WELFARE STATE By David R. Usher November 7, 2009 NewsWithViews. Feminists have exercised nearly unfettered control of Congress’s social policy philosophy since the creation of the Great Society. That arrangement, designed to help a few women in trouble, evolved into an industry executing the feminist goal of destroying marriage. The ever-escalating demands to entitle non-marriage and out-of-wedlock procreation never end. Welfare state expansions have eviscerated the function of marriage. Marriage naturally guarantees women the economic support and domestic assistance of their husbands. The feminist Oleanna is truly a nightmare burdening women with “doing it all”, earning a living, raising the children, doing the laundry, and everything else around the household. Welfare-state expansions brought on an explosion of divorce and illegitimacy only justifying another round of welfare-state expansions. Today, the welfare state costs approximately 1-trillion annually, nearly the size of the projected federal deficit, with no end in sight. Democrats now hope to double the size of the welfare state by adding health care to their long list of entitlements. Feminists hope to expand the destruction of marriage by dragging the medical profession, businesses, and taxpayers into the grandest expansion the Great Society has ever proposed. FULL STORY |

Care and Parental Rights Rumor has it the latest version of the Health Care Bill, H. Res. 3962, is scheduled to be voted on Thursday, November 5. While the narrow scope of ParentalRights.org’s mission means we have no official position on health care in general, we have great concerns about any proposed bill that would impact parental rights. On page 1176 of the current 1990-page proposal, one finds the beginning of Section 1904: “Grants to States for Quality Home Visitation Programs for Families with Young Children and Families Expecting Children.” Under the provisions of this section, federal funds would be made available “to provide voluntary home visitation for as many families with young children (under the age of school entry) and families expecting children as practicable, through the implementation or expansion of high quality home visitation programs…” (p. 1182, emphasis added). Such programs often lead to unnecessary and harmful government intrusion into the home. Further, what begins as voluntary often becomes mandatory, especially if it provides a conduit for federal funds to be poured into state projects. Finally, the language “for as many families…as practicable” creates a mandate (as the funds provide a motive) for states and their agencies to invade every family unit that they can. Of course, this particular section would not be a concern if the Constitution already included the proposed Parental Rights Amendment to protect the liberty of fit parents to direct the education and upbringing of their children. Once the amendment is adopted, the rights of parents will be protected even when state counselors have a good reason to visit the home (though the amendment will not harbor child abusers). The primary role of parents, rather than bureaucrats, in decision-making for children will be permanently secured. If you have an opinion to share with your congressman regarding H. Res 3962, you can find his contact information by clicking on your state at our States Watch page. And when you’re sharing your opinion with your friends, why not mention to them the proposed Parental Rights Amendment that will protect the right of parents to make legal, medical, and disciplinary decisions for their kids, regardless of what kinds of bills Congress chooses to pass? Urge them to sign the petition at ParentalRights.org. |

calls for $250 payments to seniors Oct 14, 8:59 PM (ET) By STEPHEN OHLEMACHER WASHINGTON (AP) - President Barack Obama called on Congress Wednesday to approve $250 payments to more than 50 million seniors to make up for no increase in Social Security next year. The Social Security Administration is scheduled to announce Thursday that there will be no cost of living increase next year. By law, increases are pegged to inflation, which has been negative this year. It would mark the first year without an increase in Social Security payments since automatic adjustments were adopted in 1975. "Even as we seek to bring about recovery, we must act on behalf of those hardest hit by this recession," Obama said in a statement. "This additional assistance will be especially important in the coming months, as countless seniors and others have seen their retirement accounts and home values Ohhh. Awww. Government-Run Health Care Wednesday, October 07, 2009 By Bret Baier Fox News Now some fresh pickings from the Political Grapevine: Prescription Problems
The report says about 1,800 prescriptions were filled for people who are dead and another 1,200 prescriptions were signed with the names of deceased doctors, costing a half-million dollars: "Medicaid offices in the selected states generally did not periodically compare their information against death records." Medicaid also paid $2.3million to 65 health care providers and pharmacies, even though they are barred from receiving federal funds. FULL STORY And this hardly scratches the surface of the FRAUD. HAS GIVEN WAY TO TYRANNY By Attorney Jonathan Emord October 6, 2009 NewsWithViews.com Because Our Constitutional Republic Has Given Way to a Bureaucratic Oligarchy When Obama promised change, many anticipated fundamental reformation of government. What they got, however, is no fundamental reformation but rather more (much more) of the same old government. The history of the United States from 1938 to the present, whether the people in power were Republicans or Democrats, is one of a transfer of governing power from the separate executive, legislative, and judicial repositories defined in the Constitution to the unelected heads of the federal bureaucracy, growing that bureaucracy into a monolithic giant. That dynamic continues at an accelerated pace in the Obama administration. Today over 90% of all new federal law is the product not of Congress, not of our elected representatives, but of unelected heads of federal agencies who are largely unaccountable to the courts, the Congress, and the American people. Year after year from 1938 to the present, the fundamental direction of the government has been toward greater oligarchic control by an ever mushrooming bureaucracy such that today we may truly say we are governed not by the republic the founding fathers created but by a bureaucratic oligarchy that the founding fathers condemned as the very definition of tyranny. The food stamp program, which helps cover the cost of groceries for one in nine Americans, has grown in step with the U.S. unemployment rate which stood at 9.4 percent in July. The Labor Department will release August employment figures on Friday. June was the seventh straight month in which food stamp rolls set a record. The average benefit in June was $133.12 per person.

Banking on a wildly successful media coverage of its efforts to transform the backward, individualistic America into a nation of enlightened state-worshippers ruled by unelected czars, the administrative branch is preparing for a next radical reform that will further streamline the system and dispel the accusations of oligarchic rule by concentrating all the powers enumerated, extrapolated, and imagined under the constitution in the hands of only one man. Said White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs, "We must urgently streamline the decision-making process because the time for talk is over. As a bioethicist, he has written extensively about who should get medical care, who should decide, and whose life is worth saving. Biggest child health problem is obesity Aug 24, 2009 By: Stephanie Skernivitz Contemporary Pediatrics Obesity in children ranks as the leading child-related health issue for US adults, according to survey results. And the number of US adults citing obesity as their utmost concern is up from last year's survey. A significant 42% of US adults indicate that childhood obesity is a major concern; in 2008, 35% of adults named obesity as the foremost concern. This is according to the University of Michigan C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health. The poll included 2,017 US adults. For the survey, adults were given a list of 23 child health issues and asked to rank them. The second leading concern for adults was drug abuse (36% of respondents). Third was smoking (32%); fourth, bullying (31%); and fifth, Internet safety (31%). Ranking sixth in priority was child abuse and neglect (20%), up from 10th position in 2007. |

struggle is about freedom Posted: August 22, 2009 1:00 am Eastern Star Parker © 2009
In his remarks, the "president" ticked off points of contention that dissenters have with his proposals – "government takeover of health care … government funding of abortion … death panels" – and dismissed these concerns as "fabrications." In one swipe, Mr. Obama reduced his opposition to liars. And why, according to the "president", are dissenters supposedly making all this stuff up? Because, he told his audience, they want to "discourage people from meeting … a core ethical and moral obligation ... that we look out for one another … that I am my brother's keeper. …" So those whose fight for individual freedom are immoral and our moral champions are those who want to extend the heavy hand of government. Forgive me if sermons about morality are a little hard to swallow from a man who supports partial-birth abortion, who just announced his intent to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act. And who really wants to obstruct moral behavior? a 'rotten fish,' Congressman says at town hall By BLAKE AUED | blake.aued@onlineathens.com | Story updated at 4:01 pm on 8/12/2009 Athens Banner-Herald CLARKESVILLE, Georgia - U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Athens, walked into a North Georgia Technical College auditorium Tuesday evening to a standing ovation, holding three thick white binders. "Folks, this is Obamacare," he said, holding the binders over his head. "Let me start this by telling you what I think of this bill and Obamacare," he said, and slammed the binders on the ground. With that, Broun set the tone for a town hall meeting on health care reform. The Democrats' proposal is too expensive and will threaten millions of Georgians' jobs and lives, he said. "This is a stinking, rotten fish, and they don't want you to smell it, and they want to shove it down your throat and make you eat it before you smell how rotten and stinky it is," he said. At another point, Broun, who last year made national news by comparing Obama to Hitler, called Cuba's former dictator Fidel Castro and leftist Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez Obama's "good buddy." He also spoke of a "socialistic elite" - Obama, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid - who might use a pandemic disease or natural disaster as an excuse to declare martial law. "They're trying to develop an environment where they can take over," he said. "We've seen that historically." Groceries, Anyone? by Thomas J. DiLorenzo August 7, 2009 Copyright © 2009 by LewRockwell.com The American Socialist Party (ASP), whose members entertainingly call themselves "Democrats," is determined to use its control of the executive and legislative branches of government to destroy the private health insurance and healthcare industries in favor of "single-payer" healthcare. Of course, when government is the single payer that means government-run monopoly. Average people instinctively understand that monopoly is never in their best interest, but to politicians who will administer and benefit from the monopoly the thinking is apparently "it’s good to be the monopolist," as Mel Brooks might say. Moreover, there is no reason to believe that they will stop there. If a government-run monopoly is good for healthcare, they will eventually argue, why not food, cars, and other essentials of modern life? They are socialists, after all. FULL STORY |
