Parenting the violent, dangerous, criminal thug teen

More than likely, you know one- A kid between 13 and 19, absolutely lazy, mouthy, crude and nasty. 

Wherever s/he isn't supposed to be, and whatever s/he isn't supposed to be doing-- That's exactly where they are, and exactly what they are doing.

Fifty years ago, there weren't very many, and the community promptly fixed their "little red wagons" when a kid decided that he was going to be the newest "Billy the Kid".

I had a cousin, "Richard" who was in trouble all the time.  His mother, my aunt had read Dr. Benjamin Spock's 1946 book "Baby and Child Care".  She had adopted the ideas about no spanking, and my cousins were mean little shits.

One day when I was over at their house, the uncle asked Richard to go get some firewood from the wood shed.  Back in those days, we heated with wood and cooked with wood.  Most of us kids KNEW that it wasn't momma's job to chop her own cooking wood, and if we wanted to eat, keeping the kindling box and cooking wood box full was a super-bright idea.

Making kindling and cooking wood isn't hard work, and we looked at it as a small price to pay for meals.  It doesn't take long to do, either.  It just never crossed our mind to try to get out of it.

But Richard was always off messing around and generally got out of the odd jobs kids in those days were expected to do.

So one day I happened to be there when the Uncle told Richard to go get the cooking wood, Richard just looked the Uncle in the eye and said "F--K YOU!".  I stood there dumbfounded.  Never in my life had it occurred to me to say such a thing.  My ex-army dad would have "stomped a new mudhole in my butt" if I had done that.  I was dreading what was going to happen next.

"RICHARD!  You know you can't talk like that in the house in front of your mother!" my uncle exclaimed.  I figured what was going to happen next was the uncle would take Richard to the woodshed, and it wouldn't be for getting wood.

Richard ran off, and the uncle just said "Oh well".  I beat feet out to the woodshed and brought auntie her cooking wood.  I was HUNGRY.

Richard went to the grocery store and stole pocket-fulls of candy bars.  It wasn't too much later, Richard was banned from even going in the store.  He thought it was funny.

A few months later, my cousins and I were down to the railroad tracks looking for unexploded signals.  These "signals" were about 1/4 sticks of dynamite and you could have some fun with them.  We also picked up the extinguished flares.  FUN, fun fun.  We decided to put some pennies on the tracks for the train to run over.

The next day, Richard was arrested and sent to Reform School.  Something about trying to cause a train wreck.  All I knew about was the pennies, and I didn't see how that was a crime.  Turns out, Richard went down there in the middle of the night and dragged railroad ties across the track and whatever else he could find to pile on the tracks.  

I think he might have been the first kid in our entire county to be sent to Reform School.  After Reform School, he got in trouble again and the judge gave him the choice of PRISON or the MARINES.  He became a Marine, and after 2 hitches he came home with a lot better outlook on life.

Fast-forwarding to NOW, the world is FULL of kids who act like "Richard".  Parents are faced with dealing with their own violent, dangerous, criminal thug teens.

But now, the consequences of a teen's behavior doesn't fall on the kid.  No, it's the PARENTS fault for "not keeping the kid under control".

Practically speaking, beyond "chair sitting" and "time outs", a parent has virtually no further options for controlling a kid's behavior.  Kids are well-versed in the communist public schools about calling CPS if they are "unhappy" in any way.  CPS believes that "kids don't lie", and they will happily destroy whoever a kid points his/her finger at.  

Absolutely no Constitutional Due Process happens when CPS is involved.  Someday, this will get them sued back to the Stone Age.

Back in 1999, when I was going through the troubles with a violent, dangerous, criminal thug teen step son, my wife and I took a "Love and Logic" class.  The young MSW teaching the class yapped about all sorts of ways to set up traps for the teen to fall into and then hold him/her RESPONSIBLE for their bad decision-making.  

I had to point out to the vapid young MSW that EVERY SINGLE SCENARIO he suggested was Chargeable Child Abuse in the State of Oregon.

At that time, I was a 49 year-old daddy to 10 kids, aged 4 to 23.  Two of my oldest were in the Navy and doing very well.  All of the other kids were well behaved.  Our violent, dangerous, criminal thug teen had been in all sorts of trouble.  The town passed an Ordinance holding me responsible for the damages this kid did.  Everything this thug did, I was held responsible for, as if there was anything I could do about it.

One day, one of the local stores got sick of him stealing from them.  They called the police and the kid was taken to Juvenile.  Juvenile had CPS take custody of the thug and they put him in "residential treatment".  There, a psych shithead "diagnosed" the thug as having "Post Traumatic Stress Disorder" and said he was "depressed".  The heck he was depressed.  The only depression he might have had would have been being in "residential treatment" where big burly guards would "take the kid" down and grind him on the concrete floor.  They also had a lockup room.

The next thing I know, I am found to be an "abuser".  CPS said that I had "long term mentally abused" him and the PTSD was the PROOF.  See the completely discredited concept of Syndrome Evidence  Also see the AFRA Pop Psychiatry page.

Exactly what I might have done was some sort of a secret.  CPS made me go to their psychs for "classes" which were nothing but more abuse from them, never about WHAT I might have done.  CPS requirements were taking 3 days a week of my time (I was running 3 business at the time). 

After 6 months of ungodly torture and accusations from CPS and their colluding psych contractors, I directly nailed the CPS worker at a meeting.  "I DON'T KNOW WHAT I AM ACCUSED OF!". 

The CPS worker snarled at me "You TALKED with him about his bad decisions!"

I told the CPS agent that she was messing with the WRONG GUY.  She laughed at me and said "Oh everybody says that".

I filed a Grievance. Shortly after that, the case was SHUT DOWN retroactively, so they wouldn't have to deal with the rest of the Exhibits and Evidence.  I intended to sue them back to the Stone Age.  The District Supervisor profusely apologized to me.  "We are soooo sorry Leonard".

But it was too late.  I was already PISSED OFF FOREVER.  Two years later, I became a co-founder of American Family Rights Association.

The kid?  

He is now 27 years old, fulfilling his calling in life as a consumer of government services.  He grew up in state custody, didn't finish high school, nor get his GED, learned no job skills.  He doesn't work, doesn't know how, and doesn't have to.  Communism has worked out great for him.
